Staff

Steven Marwick

Director Steven Marwick

Steven was ESS's first member of staff. He has overall responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the organisation. He reports to the Board of Trustees and manages the staff team. He is also ESS’s company secretary. Steven has a wide experience in policy-making, voluntary sector funding and supporting evaluation. His previous jobs include working for the Community Fund, the Government and as a freelance consultant. He is currently the Chair of the Volunteer Centre Edinburgh

Jacqui McDowell

Evaluation Support Officer

Jacqui's role is to support voluntary organisations to get to grips with evaluation, become better at doing it and using the information to learn about the difference they make. She works 1:1 with organisations or in groups to explore the issues and make evaluation manageable. Jacqui joined the ESS team at the beginning of May 2006. She has approximately 20 years experience in the voluntary sector having filled a range of roles from volunteer to senior manager and Board member. Before joining ESS she worked as an organisational development facilitator in the sector and co-authored 'The Big Picture' (2003 edition).

Jennifer Challinor

Administration and Information OfficerJennifer - Admin and Info Officer

Jennifer is responsible for day to day management of the administration, financial and information systems of Evaluation Support Scotland. Jennifer also maintains the website and online resources library and provides front line support to voluntary organisation though our phone helpdesk and email support. Jennifer has experience of capacity building and supporting voluntary sector project evaluations in Australia, Southern Africa and South Asia she also has an MA in Development studies (Project Management and Evaluation). She spent the last 5 years working in the Scottish voluntary sector supporting projects from Stornoway to Dumfries.

Anne Morrison

Training OfficerAnne Morrison

Anne joined ESS as our part time Training Officer in September 2006 to plan and deliver our programme of workshops. She has worked for over 20 years in the voluntary sector in Scotland. She has experience as a fundraiser, manager and trainer. Working for Highland Hospice for 10 years she was responsible for developing their fundraising strategy and their charity shop network. During this time she also attained her MBA. Latterly she was also Assistant Quality Manager. As Development Manager for the Institute of Fundraising in Scotland she was responsible for developing its profile and base in Scotland, including delivering training on various issues, including Trust Fundraising. She also has experience of training and organisational development as a Peer Supporter for SCVO’s Big Picture.

Diane KennedyDiane Kennedy - Evaluation Support Officer

Evaluation Support Officer

Diane joined the team in October 2007. Diane provides one to one support for organisations around monitoring and evaluation systems. She has a particular responsibility for the Laidlaw Youth Trust ‘evaluation support accounts’. Prior to working for ESS she worked for SCVO for 6.5 years on quality and organisational development projects. She has worked for Edinburgh Cyrenians, Citizens Advice Scotland and Rights Office Fife. Diane has lots of volunteer experience, including a 3.5 year stint in Ghana through Voluntary Services Overseas. Currently she sits on the board of Port of Leith Housing Association.

Silvy PeetersSilvy Peeters

Polciy and Development Officer

Silvy is the newest member of our team and joined us in July 2008. Silvy has a policy background in both the voluntary and public sector in Australia. She’s worked across a range of policy areas including health (drug dependency), housing (aged persons), and most recently indigenous affairs. In her role with ESS, Silvy works closely with funders and Government to embed evaluation for learning in policy making and funding processes, and build their skills and understanding about evaluation in their work with the third sector. Furthermore, Silvy is responsible for ESS research to continuously increase our understanding of outcomes and measurement in the third sector.

Priyanka Subhashree Priya Subhashee

Administration Assistant

Priyanka joined ESS June 2008. She supports the day to day running of ESS. She administers the delivery of ESS’s training programme and helps maintain the database. Priyanka is also responsible for maintaining the finance systems and administration of ESS. She has worked as a journalist with national dailies like The Statesman and The Times of India. She has done her Masters in Journalism from India and has completed her Advanced Certificate in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) UK.
